It’s about people, and the power of small, intentional choices that can completely transform health.” Tessa is passionate, knowledgeable and easy to chat to – so we can’t wait for you to meet her, learn from her and to keep moving forward.
What’s your one line elevator pitch?
Progress > Perfection.
Progress Over Perfection is about letting go of unrealistic ideals and expectations and focusing on small, consistent steps that lead to lasting change. As a Registered Dietitian working for years across clinical, private consulting and specialist fields, I’ve seen this core belief for health and nutrition show up over and over again.
In a world full of influencer noise and rigid rules, perfection can feel like the goal, but it often leads to cycles of all – or – nothing approaches which result in exhaustion, burnout and inconsistency. This creates a pattern of being perfect but inconsistent.
Instead, aim to be consistent even if imperfect. Show up with intention, do what you can, and keep moving forward. True progress is personal, sustainable, and built over time. There is no one-size-fits-all approach.
Why are you passionate about what you do?
We all need to eat, every day, multiple times. How I see it, every meal is an opportunity to nourish the body, to align with your health goals, and to ultimately create lasting improvements in health. This is what excites me!
As a dietitian, my passion goes beyond food. It’s about people, and the power of small, intentional choices that can completely transform health. Nutrition isn’t about perfection, but more about progress, consistency and feeling good whilst doing it!
I have witnessed firsthand how consistent, small changes can completely transform someone’s quality of life. When a client tells me they finally feel at home in their body, or that they are thriving instead of just surviving – it gives me instant goosebumps. I’ve held back tears hearing client wins, knowing the strength and effort it took to get there.
It’s more than rewarding. It is deeply moving and a constant reminder of why I do what I do!
Who is your ideal customer?
An ideal client is someone who is ready to unlock their full potential by optimising their nutrition and overall health – committed to taking their wellness goals to the next level!
They are curious, open to change, and willing to take meaningful action toward better health. The client is ready to feel great in the present while also laying the foundation for lasting, long term wellness. Through small yet sustainable changes, they will experience improved vitality now, while building habits that support a thriving health span for years to come!
What can Dapper clients expect in a discovery call or session with you?
First, we will get clear on your goals, as many struggle to stay consistent with their health and nutrition when their why isn’t fully defined. We’ll talk about what’s important to you, and what you want your health and nutrition outcomes to look and feel like. We will chat about possible barriers and roadblocks that might be getting in the way, whether it is time, mindset, motivation, or just feeling overwhelmed by all the conflicting advice available. Once we have a better picture, I’ll walk you through the fundamentals that actually work. No fads, no fluff but just real, sustainable strategies. And by the end of the call, you’ll leave with a few simple, actionable steps you can start using right away.
Tell us a bit about your career to date?
I hold two degrees from University of Cape Town (UCT): A Bachelor of Science (Biochemistry and Human Physiology) and an Honours in Medical Nutrition and Dietetics. My work experience spans both rural South Africa, for the completion of my community service, and in private medical care in Cape Town.
With over six years of clinical experience, I have developed the ability to be dynamic and quick–thinking, working with a broad range of clients and patients. I am committed to evidence–based practice, ensuring all recommendations are backed by medical research, and I stay up–to–date with the latest developments in the field.
I have spent more than five years combined in oncology and chronic pain, where I have developed a deep sense of empathy and compassion for helping others feel better. I am deeply passionate about making a positive impact on one’s health and well–being.
Currently, my primary focus in private practice lies in helping motivated individuals to elevate their nutrition for longevity and overall health span, as well as particular attention to gut health (a personal passion) and women’s health.
What brings you joy/ energises you?
Nature and the outdoors, moving my body, connecting with loved ones… oh and good food!
What do you enjoy about collaborating with Dapper?
The foundation of Dapper is rooted in authenticity and thoroughness, taking the time to understand every aspect of a client’s need. Dapper’s mission to empower individuals to realise their full potential through providing in–depth personalised support for sustainable improvement aligns strongly with my values.
The team aspect is incredibly powerful. By collaborating together with the same goals, the team creates the ideal environment to support the client in order for them to thrive. Team work makes the dream work!
Tell us something not many people know about you?
I might come across as someone who has it all together, but behind the scenes, I have been navigating some gut health challenges that have affected me physically, mentally and emotionally. It is an ongoing journey – one filled with learning, experimenting and sharing personal experiences along the way.
I also have a bit of a cookbook obsession. My collection is ever – growing, yet most of them remain under-used. Not because I don’t love them, but because I rarely follow recipes to the letter, and prefer to use them as creative inspiration.
Born a true Dutchie (an ‘echte Hollander’) and raised South African, I am a blend of two worlds. I am warm – hearted and caring, yet honest by nature with a weakness for salty liquorice: proof that my Dutch roots run deep.
